There are many things that I do for my cockapoo, Riley, that only other dog moms understand. Like throwing him a birthday party, telling him goodbye when I go out, and filling my weekends with dog events.
I even created an Instagram account for my dog, which has allowed me to connect with a wonderful community of equally-obsessed pet parents.
One of the first dog moms that I met on Instagram was Mariana Mesquita. We developed a friendship after our cockapoos, both named Riley, became Valentines in 2016. To support our dog’s budding romance, Mariana and I would send each other dog toys, treats, and cards for birthdays and holidays.
Over time, we noticed other dog friends exchanging pawmail and saw how happy it made them. In an effort to spread more puppy love, we decided to create Gift Spawt—a one-stop-shop for sending dog gifts, stuffed toys, puppy care packages, and greeting cards.
While we enjoy curating gift sets and finding unique toys for our site, the best part of our job is helping dog friends celebrate and support each other. Pups can now share birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions even when they live in different parts of the country or world.
Since launching Gift Spawt, Mariana and I have received a tremendous amount of support from other dog moms, especially those that have started their own dog-inspired businesses.

OUTFITTING DOGS IN STYLISH ACCESSORIES AND SUPPORTING DOG SHELTERS
While all pet parents feel an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude for their dogs, there is an unmistakable bond between dog moms and their rescue pups.
When Katelynne Pierce adopted Stella Luna, a Chihuahua-Miniature Pinscher, she knew she wanted to give her the best life possible. As she documented Stella’s journey on Instagram, she also found accounts of small businesses selling adorable pet apparel.
This sparked her creativity and inspired her to start Stella’s Styles—a Connecticut-based pet apparel company that features handmade accessories, including bandannas and bows, as well as “paw-rent” apparel, including t-shirts and matching accessories. With Stella by her side, Katelynne began working 24/7 to produce and market her own little “masterpieces.”
What was initially a hobby has become a successful company that’s generously donated to local rescue/shelter organizations. Stella’s Styles has also raised money for a dog’s emergency surgery and remains committed to assisting dogs and humans in need.
CREATING GOURMET DOG TREATS THAT ARE NUTRITIOUS AND DELICIOUS
As pet parents become increasingly selective about their dog’s food, many find themselves thinking: I wouldn’t eat this, so why would I feed it to my dog? This is exactly how Minyoung Morita felt when she inspected her dog Bobby’s canned meal and wondered if it was responsible for his numerous health issues.
Intent on figuring out a solution to Bobby’s medical problems, Minyoung began learning all that she could about dog nutrition and decided to start feeding him freshly cooked food.
After about 5 years of cooking and baking for Bobby and Bambi, people started asking Minyoung to make food and treats for their dogs.
In 2014, she launched Bobby + Bambi’s Gourmet Dog Bakery to provide other pet parents with healthy dog treats, pastries, and custom cakes containing people-grade, organic, and all-natural ingredients. Bobby + Bambi’s creative, nutritious, and delicious baked goods are proof that healthy doesn’t have to be boring!
BUILDING BONDS BETWEEN HUMANS AND THEIR DOGS
Many girls dream about becoming a dog mom—just ask Roiya Lohrmann. While most kids were reading Harry Potter, Roiya was memorizing every dog breed in the AKC Dog Encyclopedia and plotting the various breeds that she would one day own.
At 27 years old, Roiya is now the proud parent of three delightful dogs—Zuko (Keeshond), Hermes (Mixed Breed), and Fionn (Keeshond).
She’s also the founder and head trainer at Canine Chemistry. The company’s primary focus is strengthening the bond between each owner and their dog through obedience, exercise, and nutrition. They offer private training lessons, day-training, a stay and train program, and group classes in Durham, NC.
When asked what she likes most about being a dog mom and entrepreneur, Roiya said, “I spend day in and day out building lifelong bonds with creatures that can’t say a single word! I LOVE that connection because, even without words, dogs communicate beautifully if you take the time to listen and learn.”

Hi, I’m Allison. I’m the cofounder of Gift Spawt and one of the humans behind @dogswithstuffedanimals. When I’m not obsessing over adorable dogs and plush toys (which is almost always), I can be found creating digital content for healthcare companies. I recently moved from DC to Chapel Hill, NC and love exploring the city with my cockapoo Riley.
