I’m sure you’ve been hearing about CBD oils for dogs on social media and all over the internet and have been curious about what it was and if it actually works. Let’s just jump right into it!
CBD stands for Cannabidiol and comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant, a.k.a. marijuana. The process to extract the oils from the plant are similar to exacting olive and coconut oils. CBD oils have many benefits. The oils are a host of medically beneficial properties. In fact, research studies have shown that cannabidiol can help with many ailments like: anxiety, arthritis, pain, allergies, etc.
I worked with Honest Paws because of their story. They believe that health comes first. They are passionate about creating different ways to help your pet live a longer, healthier, and happier life. They source with the most pure CBD oil and natural ingredients.
I wanted to see if CBD oils would help my pup, Roo. This year she is turning 13 and has anxiety, starting to have arthritis, and is generally very tired all the time. I wanted to see if the oils could bring Roo back to a happier and healthier lifestyle.
Honest Paws sent me two products: Purity Solutions: CBD Oil for Dogs – Level 1 and Calming Aid – CBD Soft Chews. First, Roo is only 6 lbs., so I was worried that the products would make her sick. Both products have directions on how much to give depending on weight. The soft chews were pretty easy to break down. Roo has no teeth so I needed to break down the chews for her. I took a whiff to see if it smelled really strong or “marijuana-ny” but it smelled natural and safe. The soft chews include ingredients like Tryptophan, which are the same ingredients found in turkey meat. I gave Roo a little bit to try since she is a picky eater. She was hesitant at first but she began to do her tricks because she thought it was a treat! I gave some chews to her during the day and wanted to see how she would react. Roo gets anxious in cars, so I was interested to see her reaction. I took her in the car and she did not whimper or cry at all. She just looked at me and then just lied down in her bag. She wasn’t sleepy or lethargic; she was just calm. It was amazing to see her like that because she can get really anxious.
Since Roo is starting to get arthritis and pain during the night, she ends up staying in the same spot and only moves when she needs to go to the bathroom. I wanted to try the oil since it helps with inflammation, joint, and mobility issues. I put a few drops into her dinner to see how she would react. I was worried that it would make her sleepy and I didn’t want her to feel ‘high’. An hour passed, and she started walking around the house and started playing with her toys. It was great seeing her like a young dog again!
The real test was during the holidays. I took Roo home to Toronto. The flight in total was about 6 hours each way. Roo has never flown this long so I was worried! I took the soft chews with me since it was easy to carry in my bag and gave her a few right before we took off. She was calm in the car to the airport, check-in, security check, and the whole plane ride. It felt like she was much more happier after taking the chews because she was greeting everyone and she did seem more lively. When I see my dog like that, it definitely makes me feel so much more calm and happier to see my dog happy.
Overall, this was a really positive experience. I am really glad I got a chance to work with Honest Paws to try their products. I am a believer, and to see my dog so much more happier makes me so much more happier, too.

For our Great Dane, it took two weeks before we noticed it working. For him it was more about pain management.
