If you have an active furry friend, you know the importance of having gear to match their needs. Keeping up with them can be a full-time job, and having well made, pet-minded products can help us “paw-rents” just as much as them! In this post, I’d love to share some products I personally own and highly recommend for any pet family. Whether you have a lab that never stops going or a playful Boston terrier that lives for long walks, there’s something useful for all levels and breeds.
WHISTLE LABS: WHISTLE 3 GPS & ACTIVITY TRACKER
One of my favorite pieces of equipment is a waterproof, shockproof, GPS and activity tracker called “Whistle 3.” It is a small rectangle about the size of a tic-tac box that attaches to any collar or harness. What sets this particular brand apart from some of the other fitness and location trackers out there is the app interface. The app clearly shows your pet’s activity throughout the day, as well as their progress towards their daily “goal.” Based on the breed, age, and weight, the Whistle 3 will suggest an activity goal based on minutes of exercise. This is more than just a Fitbit for your dog, it tracks their location as well! Using wifi, you can establish where “home” is. When your pet moves out of the zone you’ve set up, it will alert you instantly via text, email, or by app notification. It will continually track their location while they are out of wifi signal using the cell service built in and powered by AT&T, which you pay for monthly. While doing all of this, it can stay charged for up to two weeks! It has definitely made me feel more connected to my dog, and has given me a sense of peace when we leave her at home.
Price for Whistle 3: $79.95

KURGO: JOURNEY AIR DOG HARNESS
This harness is the perfect match for the outdoor enthusiast. The versatility paired with the sturdy aluminum buckles and fabric make this a go-to for walks or hiking. I love this harness mainly because of how many places one can attach a leash to. If your furry friend tends to pull, you can hook the leash to the front loop as well as a traditional metal loop on the back. There is a large handle on the back of the harness to help assist or pick up quickly, but I use it to attach our Whistle to or an extra carabiner. Another reason I am a fan of this particular harness is the shape and points of adjustment. This harness has a thick chest piece for extra comfort as well a shape that is made to provide less strain to your dog’s neck and provides more movability. With four buckles, this is the simplest harness I have used to get on and off and to make adjustments.
Price for Journey Air Dog Harness: $50.00
Traveling with your adventure buddy can sometimes leave you with your hands full. You’ve got your bag on your back, a package of treats in one hand, a collapsible water bowl in the other, and your four-legged friend is already introducing themselves to your campsite neighbors. Meet your hands-free, easy to set up hitching system! This keeps your dog from getting tangled up on the picnic table while you set up camp, and still gives them the freedom to enjoy wherever you are. What I love most about this is the design. Just looking at the colors and industrial feel makes me want to climb a mountain. It is as easy to set up as a hammock. Find two points and wrap around until it makes a tight line and then attach your leash to the carabiner. It’s a simple way to let you and your pup enjoy nature together with a little less juggling.
Price for Knot-a-Hitch: $59.95
This leash is a great companion to the product mentioned above. The sturdy and comfortable Knot-a-Leash from Ruffwear is essential for the active pup. Something that frustrates me is when your wiggly tailed friend has a problem with sitting long enough to clip them onto a leash, especially when the clips can be small and hard to open. This leash is a huge help and makes getting ready to go much quicker with a simple to open, locking carabiner. Having an active dog means things need to be quick and durable, and this leash is both. The perk for the human is definitely the handle, which has an incredibly soft material and also includes an opening to hold potty bags. As far as safety, this leash has you covered with reflective striping for late night strolls.
Price for Ruffwear Knot-a-Leash: $34.95
RUFFWEAR: GRIP TEX DOG BOOTS
When traveling with your dog (and if you’re like me) you plan for the unexpected, but there are certain items you bring no matter what. For me, these dog boots are definitely one of those things that are always in my dog’s pack. Where I live is incredibly hot in the summer. From May to late October, the pavement can be dangerously hot which was the main reason I invested in these. What I love about these is that not only are they great for those hot summer days, but they’re also suited for all types of terrain! Hiking is a huge part of our free time and we’re usually exploring places we have never been. Having these with us has protected our pup’s paws from Rocky Mountain sides to keeping foxtails from getting wedged in her toes.
Price for Ruffwear Grip Tex Dog Boots: $74.95 (set of 4)
These are some of my go-to active dog products that have made living and loving my hyperactive pup a little less complicated. Keeping our dogs happy and healthy is always the goal, and I hope that you find some of these products to be as useful as I have. What are some of your favorite finds for doing life with your dog?
Hey there! I’m Haylee! I recently graduated from college with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I am currently working with my husband at his family business, a collision repair company. In my free time I love to go hiking, camping, and do graphic design work. Denver, my female English Springer Spaniel, runs my husband and I’s life! Keeping her entertained is my other full-time job and it’s a complete joy.
