When my husband and I moved to Indianapolis from San Diego, I was excited, but also a little nervous. I didn’t think we’d be able to be as active as we were in California. While Indiana doesn’t have an ocean nearby, I’m so proud of all this city has to offer. Our food scene is growing, neighborhoods are developing and being restored everywhere you look, and the dog-friendly scene definitely gets four paws up!
Today, I am sharing our beautiful city with ten of my favorite dog-friendly activities and places to go!
MONON TRAIL
I’ve always loved the Monon! It stretches from downtown all the way to the north side of the city. It’s shaded in many areas and is the perfect option for a great, long walk with your pup. There are always bikes and runners, so keep your fur-baby close by and always keep an eye out.
EAGLE CREEK STATE PARK
Holding the title for one of the largest parks in the nation, Eagle Creek is covered with over 1,400-acres of beautiful land. It’s no wonder people travel here to visit. They also have their own Bark Park (there is an annual fee). Also be prepared to pay a small entry fee, it’s a state park after all. 🙂
HOLLIDAY PARK
Holliday Park is not only gorgeous, but also one of Indy’s oldest parks – and it’s just six miles north of downtown! With 94-acres of lush green space, this is a must do if you’re looking for a new space to bring your pup around the city.
COXHALL GARDENS
We just did our family photos at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel a few weeks ago, so this location is super special to me. This land was donated to the city and is the perfect place to walk, have a picnic, or enjoy a summer concert.
Side note: If you’re in the Indy area, check out Victoria Hunt Photography. Victoria did our family photos and I adore her talent and sweet personality!

CANAL WALK
The Canal Walk is one of my favorites! It’s a 3-mile loop that stretches from the White River State Park to 11th Street. You get to enjoy a beautiful walk and admire the Indianapolis skyline, all with your pup!
URBNIE VINES
Located in Westfield, Urban Vines is a great place to go on a sunny afternoon to enjoy an adult beverage (they serve beer and wine), listen to live music, and let your pup mingle (they have to be on a leash). The relaxed, casual vibe can’t be beat!
BRU BURGER
The Carmel and Mass Ave. locations are both dog-friendly. They will even bring your pup their own water dish. How cute and welcoming. 🙂
METAZOA BREWING COMPANY
Not only does Metazoa have a great view of downtown Indy, they also allow dogs INSIDE the brewery. So if it rains, you’re covered. Literally. 😉
Their motto is “Drink Beer. Help Animals.” AND 5% of their profits are donated to animal and wildlife organizations.
HOTEL TANGO WHISKEY
Hotel Tango is the sweetest, rustic stop. They describe their style as an “eclectic Americana feel” and it sure lives up to that description! Their seasonal drink menu is absolutely phenomenal and incredibly unique, AND they are so pet-friendly!
PUBLIC GREENS
Fresh food. Great coffee. A cute little urban garden (at the location on the Monon). Pups on the patio…what more could you ask for?
Do you live in Indianapolis? What are some of your favorite places to go with your dog?
