True story: My dog Charlie has never eaten a fruit or a vegetable before! He’s been offered a huge variety of dog-friendly options, but he refuses them all. He’s more of a meat and cheese kinda guy! I wanted to create a fun Valentine’s Day treat that he would like, but my options were limited when it came to colors…or so I thought! I came up with something that he actually loved, and I can officially say that he’s now a meat and cheese and strawberries kinda guy! Ha! Here’s my recipe for Valentine’s Day frozen strawberry coconut heart treats!
INGREDIENTS
-1 cup Strawberries
-1 cup plain yogurt (I used Fage Greek Yogurt)
-1 cup coconut oil, melted
-1/2 cup water
EQUIPMENT
-Any kind of blender
-Silicone mold (I used a heart-shaped mold I found on Amazon)
-Spatula
DIRECTIONS
If you have frozen strawberries, make sure that you thaw them beforehand. If the strawberries are still frozen, they will harden the coconut oil and be more difficult to blend.
Throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour the mixture into your silicone mold and freeze for at least 3 hours.
I chopped up an extra strawberry and added it on top.
Once they are frozen, they should be able to easily pop out of the mold!
The silicone mold that I used has 6 pretty large hearts, so this recipe only made 6. I would definitely double it next time and keep them the freezer for a tasty treat!
These treats are so versatile, and you can add anything that your dog likes! Next time, I plan on adding blueberries as well.
I was very skeptical, but Charlie actually LOVED them! He immediately took the treat from me and found a nice spot to eat it. He’s a very slow/delicate eater, so I moved the treat to his bowl to finish.
