This month, we’re bringing a little ray of sunshine to the December #DailyBarker Pet of the Month Spotlight! I know it’s winter for the majority of our readers and you’re probably finding yourself in a cold and dreary setting. Not today, though! This month’s spotlight is a Florida resident who is always putting a smile on our faces…whether he’s floating in the pool, digging for crabs in the sand, or swimming in the ocean. Ready to meet this little guy? Let’s get started! 🙂
What is your name?
Where are you from?
I am from Hutchinson Island on Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am a stocky 9-year-old Jack Russell mix weighing in at 25 pounds. I was adopted by my forever family when I was 4. Prior to them, I lived with 2 other families that couldn’t handle my energetic awesomeness. As Mom and Dad quickly learned, I was a wild one and they wasted no time getting me neutered. Ouch! They also introduced me to the beach and while it wasn’t love at first sight, it is now my absolute favorite place in the world. I have so much fun swimming, digging and chasing crabs. I love to watch Dad fish but have to learn to keep cool when he catches a fish. I also have a girlfriend, sorry ladies, her name is Hula and she lives upstairs from me. We see each other every day.
True to the terrier traits, I am both tenacious and fearless (unless there is thunder or fireworks). It takes a lot to tire me out, so I keep my people busy and well exercised.
I can be a bit of a jerk sometimes, especially when meeting new dogs, but I am all bark and no bite. As far as meeting new people, I love them all and view everyone as a potential treat giver.
Do you have any nicknames?
Stinker, Binker, Stinkasaurus, Lil ????, Sinker MaJinker, Sweet Thing, Lil Man, and Srinkaruski…but I listen to none of these, including my real name. If you want my attention, you have to say either “Treat” or “Hula” (my girlfriend’s name.)
How many years have you been on Instagram?
Coming up on 4 years this March!
What got you started on Instagram?
I will let mom tell this story as this kind of technology isn’t really my thing: Hi! I’m Sara, mother of Stink, here. My iCloud was full, and I wanted a way to preserve pictures. We got Stink’s account started with the help of a girl I work with, who helped guide me along and teach me how social media works. I actually don’t have any social media accounts for myself. Just Stink, as he is way more interesting. 🙂 For the longest time after I started Stink’s account (and before I knew about hashtags), I had the “original 7” followers as I like to call the first 7 friends of mine that followed Stink. Then, little by little, with the use of hashtags I started to gain some followers. It was never my intention to gather followers, it sort of just happened.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Hi, guys! Stink again! Our alarm goes off at 7:30 am and then we walk over to the beach to get the day started. We make it to the beach at least once a day and have only missed going to the beach when we were forced to evacuate for hurricanes.
I get back from the beach and chow down on some breakfast. Mom works from home, so between 9am-5pm I am busy supervising her.
Every day I go in my crate from 2-5 pm for a nap, even when mom and dad are home because I had some separation anxiety issues. From when I was first adopted, I have been trained for “nap time.” Now if they ever must leave me home alone, they do so during my daily nap time and I don’t mind since it’s part of my routine to kick back in my crate.
When mom is done with work at 5 pm, I get my dinner and we head to the beach for another walk.
On the weekends I get more beach time in and my girlfriend Hula joins me for our adventures — including digging for crabs, swimming, and rolling in the mysterious smelly things we find.
What is your favorite travel spot?
I live in paradise and feel like I am on a constant vacation, no need to travel anywhere. I just visit local beaches around where I live.
If you could be another animal, what would you be?
Definitely a crabeater seal! They get to swim and eat crabs, my two favorite things!
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
My mom! I am a total mama’s boy. I miss her terribly when she takes the garbage out or leaves for any other reason. The longest we have ever been apart was 5 hours and we were both kind of a mess.
What is your favorite meal or thing to eat?
Any kind of cheese…as long as it comes out of a deli bag. I will hear that bag from miles away.
Tell us one random fact about you that no one knows!
I once jumped off the boat after a Bull Shark that was chasing baitfish.
